In Groove Machine, all the musicians operate as one entity: the groove machine. Through hocketting lines, each instrument introduces their own timbral flair to the sound world. Together, they create one groove that they help drive forward and develop throughout the work. This piece also looks to introduce young players to extended techniques, with each woodwind given a singular technique to learn as part of the work. Individually, the performers play stagnant, disjunct lines, but together they become the Groove Machine.
